November 2017

Hello K-2 families!

Here is my November update for happenings in the art room!

We've had a ton of fun learning about how artists use line to create more interesting artworks. We talked about how to change our lines in many ways, the size, shape, direction, and style of our lines. So many cool artworks were made using line, so I hope that you have enjoyed seeing the work that has come home.

In addition, we have also had the opportunity to explore a new drawing material, Oil Pastels, at our drawing center. Students love how bright the colors are and how smoothly they draw! We have also learned how to make 3D collages by folding down "feet" on our papers and gluing the feet down. Finally, we are also learning how artists ask questions of artworks such as "Where did you get the idea to make that?" and "Why did you make that?"

This is a reminder that I do not do teacher led projects within the art room. I teach concepts to students and they get the choice on how to implement what they learn into their artwork. The artworks that come home are going to be artworks created through the eyes of students and to their own liking. Because of this, students will create artwork based upon where they are developmentally in the creative process. Check out this link if you want to learn more about how art develops throughout a child's life.

It's been a fun and productive end of October and beginning of November. We are going to end out the month by learning about Shapes in art and how we can create light and dark colors when coloring by controlling the pressure of our hands.

Thanks again for reading! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to email me!
