3-6 November 2017

Hello 3-6 families!

It's been a crazy last month in the Monty K8 art room. We have accomplished a lot and it's only the second week of the second quarter.

In October we finished up our Artist Trading Cards and traded them with our classmates. Students were so excited to trade their artwork for art created by their peers. There was great communication and cooperation between students.

After we traded our cards, we had an end of quarter celebration day, where students got to use materials they are not able to use very often. We got to use blocks, Legos, K'nex, marble run, an airbrush system, finger knitting, and even practice doing digital art our our brand new Chromebooks!

Speaking of Chromebooks, we were granted six Chromebooks to use in the art room. Students are now able to use them to research for their art projects, learn how to create new drawings or paintings with Youtube, and create digital art. We are so happy to have this technology in our classroom.

Over the last two weeks, students have been working on a collage project. Students were tasked with creating a collage of their choice, using the available materials. They were then challenged with using 4/7 of the collage techniques in class. Their collages could be realistic or abstract, but needed to use their best craftsmanship. We are slowly working our way to fully designing our own projects in third and fourth quarter.

Collage Techniques:

1. Cut paper

2. Torn paper

3. Overlap paper

4. Cut with Fancy Scissors

5. Use texture rubbings

6. Cut from magazines

7. Build 3D, but has to be 3 inches or less

As November progresses, we are going to finish our collages, learn about and write Artist Statements, and begin learning about where ideas come from to make art.

Thanks for reading! Please email me if you have any questions.
