Mid Fall 3-6 Art Room Shenanigans

Hello 3-6 parents and guardians!

Hope your October has been going well! I'm a huge fan of the colder weather so I've been loving the feeling of fall so far. It's been almost a month since my last update, but I wanted to write up this blog to let you know a bit about the happenings in art for our 3-6 kiddos!

We finished up our Draw Around the Room activities and have now jumped into our Artist Trading Cards. We learned a bit about pop culture movements in the general society and discussed some of our favorites like fidget spinners, slime, bottle flipping, and the dab. We then learned that art groups create their own trends, such as Artist Trading Cards.

While learning about our ATCs, students learned that they could do their cards in series with the same theme or singular cards of things that they like. This is a great activity to get to know one another in the classroom and to build community with one another when we cap everything off by trading our cards in the coming weeks.

Last week we were introduced to our Artist of the Month, Bruce Pollock, and learned a bit about our first Element of Art, Line. We did a series of activities which include drawing lines, looking at Pollock's artwork and discussing the types of lines we see in them, and then practice implementing some of the tips we learned into our own artwork.

If you want to continue the discussion about Line at home, this is a great place to start! With our general video of lines:

Line information for parents:

Lines: A dot that went for a walk

Lines can be short, long, thick, thin, zig zag, wavy, bumpy, rough, soft, etc. and go many different directions such as horizontal, vertical, and diagonal.

We framed this month's artist along with line with an Essential Question:

How can using a variety of lines in my artwork make me a better creator?

Students will be tasked with answering this question in their own words at the end of the month. Follow this link if you would like to see our Google Presentation on Line.

As we finish up Artist Trading Cards, we will also have the collage center open up for us, so we can either draw or collage in the art room to create our artworks! Look forward to beginning to have more choice!

Thanks for taking the time to read this blog.
