K2: Weeks Two and Three

Wow these first few weeks of school are going by fast! The first few weeks have been met with lots of successes mixed in with a few frustrations, especially as our first and second grade students become accustomed to our 25 minute blocks twice per week instead of the one 50 minute class from last year, but we've been managing and are ready to head in strong into week three.

In week two, students explored drawing materials in our drawing boxes. We had a chance to explore crayons, colored pencils, and markers in creating our drawings. On the second class period of the week, we shared our drawings and even learned how to give compliments to one another! It was an eventful week full of creation and reflection for these kiddos.

As we move into our third full rotation, students will be introduced to the building materials available in the art room. Students will spend two class periods exploring our building materials. We will learn how to correctly handle the materials (no throwing, sharing, etc.) and how to correctly put them away. Students will then be given the remainder of class time to play with the materials. We will also have a second class day to play with them, to really solidify the expectations of building in the art room. Eventually, students will have a choice on either drawing or building for the day, more to come during week four.

These kiddos have been doing fantastic so far and making great progress, and September isn't even done yet!

Best wishes,

Amanda Mesenbring
