7th and 8th Grade Week One

Week one is in full swing for our 7th and 8th grade students in art. On our first day, we discussed the art room rules and expectations along with talking about how the art room in general would run (for more information, read the Welcome Blog), decorated our portfolio covers, and created inspiring quote signs to hang on a bulletin board in the art room.

For day two, students will explore various drawing materials at their tables. They will create mini artworks with crayons, colored pencils, markers, oil pastels, chalk pastels, and charcoal and then describe each material. We will then discuss each material as a class and talk about when artists may choose to use each material.

On day three and four we will discuss how artists get ideas. Students will create four mini artworks, about a half sheet of standard size paper each, using any of our drawing materials based upon the following prompts:

1. A memory/experience

2. Something from your imagination

3. Something physically in front of you/that you can actually see

4. Emotions/feelings

Upcoming due dates:

1. Syllabus due Friday 9/8/2017 for 5 points of extra credit

2. How artists get ideas four mini drawings due Monday 9/11/2017 at the end of class.
